Dan Ratcliffe for Market

About Me

I’m Dan Ratcliffe. I have lived in Cambridge for around a decade and currently live just north of Jesus Green with my partner Andrew and our children. I first moved here to work for the Labour Party, having previously worked for various single-issue campaign groups in my native Lancashire. I spent many years working on community cohesion projects and have a lifelong passion for equalities issues. I am currently director of a charitable organisation opening up a new community space.

I have worked with various cultural organisations including previously as a trustee of Cambridge Live as they started trading and as a board observer at the Junction helping work up their redevelopment plans. When not working my partner and I can often be found at gigs, concerts and plays in the city, though when it comes to following my hometown team Blackburn Rovers FC to away matches I am on my own!

Why I’m standing for Market

I have been proud to represent Market ward for the past 4 years. The mix of residential areas, open spaces, shopping areas and of course the colleges has provided a variety of challenges and learning experiences. I learnt quickly that there are often competing demands in our neighbourhoods and how vital it is to balance these. I want to continue to ensure Market residents views are heard when addressing issues in the city centre.

As Chair of Community Services I have been deeply involved in work to improve our green spaces (including management plans, wildflower meadows, biodiversity and more), create a new fairer policy for events on these spaces, policies to improve accessibility across the city centre and with our flagship Anti Poverty Strategy. As Vice-Chair of Licensing I have worked with the taxi trade on issues that concern residents such as over-ranking, safeguarding and efforts to reduce harmful emissions in the city centre.

I want to keep working on all these areas and most of all to contribute to the ongoing work of the city council to help those in our community who are vulnerable towards the vision of One Cambridge, Fair for all.
